The International Food Security and Sovereignty Conference is a premier global platform dedicated to advancing sustainable agriculture, strengthening food sovereignty, and building resilience across food systems. The Food Hygiene Bureau hosts the conference September 9-10, 2026 at Sandals Dunn's River in Mammee Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica.
"Building Resilience in Food Systems: Enhancing Food Security and Sovereignty"
Over the past two years, Jamaica has experienced two major hurricanes, including a devastating Category 5 storm, while continuing to face growing impacts of climate change and global supply chain disruption. These events exposed vulnerabilities in Jamaica's food production and delivery systems, highlighting dependence on imported food.
Jamaica's annual food import bill now exceeds US$1.4 billion, accounting for approximately 20% of the country's total import expenditure. The nation continues to face significant public health challenges linked to nutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases.
The conference brings together international thought leaders, policymakers, researchers, innovators, farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and development partners to explore practical solutions to pressing food and agricultural challenges facing Jamaica and the wider world. Speakers come from the UK, USA, Asia, Jamaica, and Guyana.
The conference focuses on developing resilient, sustainable solutions for driving locally produced food systems capable of withstanding environmental, economic, and social pressures.
The conference examines innovative approaches to increase locally grown foods, including policy reform, climate-smart agriculture, urban farming, indigenous crops, supply chain resilience, and youth engagement.
