Principal Seed Quality Assurance Officer (Seed Inspection)
Description

Kenya Seed Company Limited, established under the Companies Act, 2015, is a Commercial State Corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Irrigation. Its primary mandate is to produce and market top quality certified agricultural seeds.

Responsibilities

i) To carry out authorized seed field inspections, seed processing inspections, seed sampling, labelling and sealing as per the seeds and plant varieties (seeds) regulations and authorization guidelines.
ii) Implement Pre/Post-Control activities for the Company’s products.
iii) Collaborate with Production officers and Breeders in detection of varietal off-types in both basic and certified seed production and devise/implement/appraise programs to continuously improve seed quality along the value chain.
iv) Liaise with all Production Units of the Company to train Seed Growers on seed crop field standards.
v) Coordinate drawing pre-harvest samples and testing to determine physiological maturity of seed and advising harvesting programs.
vi) Collaborate with relevant agencies and implement programs to eradicate counterfeits seed products.
vii) Spearhead strategies that will enable the company to implement OECD seed schemes and undertake authorized seed certification programs.
viii) Coordinate the implementation of validation and calibration programs of all Company weighing and measuring equipment.
ix) Coordinate pricing, quotations, and invoicing for seed inspection activities.
x) Prepare work plans and periodic work progress reports.

Qualifications

i) Bachelors Degree in Seed Technology, Botany, Biochemistry, Applied Biology qualifications from a recognized institution; or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
ii) At least eight (8) years relevant work experience in Public Service or Private Sector;
iii) Membership to relevant professional body.
iv) Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution Problem-solving and decision-making abilities;
v) Analytical skills
vi) The ability to work under pressure;
vii) Good communication and presentation skills;
viii) Working knowledge in computer applications
ix) Must have valid driving license.
x) Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
